BRISTOW— American Farmers & Ranchers Youth Coordinator Cara Comstock presented sensory kits to students and staff at Edison Elementary in Bristow. Every year, the AFR Leadership Summit hosts a service project that enables campers to donate their time and energy toward a good cause.
This year’s teen session campers packed more than 250 sensory kits to share with elementary youth across Oklahoma. Sensory kits are designed to support fine motor skills, cognitive strengths and creativity through hands-on learning. Sensory learning in general has profound impacts on young childhood education by aiding in social skill development, sensory processing and emotional regulation.
Summit’s teen campers packed three sensory box themes. Sand and Sea, Roar and Explore, and Pollinator Patch. The boxes included items that encourage a sense of touch, such as kinetic sand, fidgets and model insects and animals.
“The Sensory boxes are a new project for us, and we are excited to provide these to students across the state,” said Comstock. “These kits will help support learning and engagement in lower elementary classrooms through hands on, tactical experiences that aid in motor skill and sensory development.”
The remaining sensory kits will be distributed to additional elementary schools across Oklahoma through Fall 2025.
